How to Make Meat & Potato Casserole

Follow these simple steps to prepare this delicious dish:

Step 1: Preheat Your Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). While it warms up, grease a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray so nothing sticks later on.

Step 2: Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds. Aim for about an eighth of an inch thick; you want them tender but not mushy! Set aside while you get everything else ready.

Step 3: Cook the Ground Beef

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Don’t forget to break it apart as it cooks! Once browned, add chopped onions and minced garlic; sauté until they become fragrant and soft—around five minutes should do.

Step 4: Make the Sauce

Pour in the beef broth and heavy cream into the skillet with your meat mixture. Stir well and let it simmer for about five minutes until slightly thickened—this will create those amazing flavors that’ll infuse your casserole.

Step 5: Layer It Up

In your greased baking dish, start layering half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom. Next, pour half of your meat mixture over them. Repeat this step with another layer of potatoes followed by the remaining meat mixture.

Step 6: Bake and Top with Cheese

Cover your baking dish tightly with aluminum foil (this keeps everything moist) and bake in the preheated oven for about one hour. Afterward, remove the foil and sprinkle grated cheddar cheese on top. Return it to the oven uncovered for another fifteen minutes until bubbly and golden brown.

Transfer to plates and drizzle with sauce for the perfect finishing touch. Enjoy every bite of this hearty Meat & Potato Casserole!

Perfecting the Cooking Process

Start by browning the meat in a skillet to lock in flavor. While it sizzles, chop up your potatoes and veggies. Layer everything in a baking dish, then pour on the sauce for a seamless cooking experience.

Add Your Touch

Feel free to swap out beef for turkey or add extra veggies like carrots or green beans. Spice it up with your favorite herbs or cheeses for added flavor. This recipe is all about making it yours!

Storing & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. To reheat, pop it in the oven at 350°F until heated through for best results and to maintain that delicious texture.

I remember the first time I made this meat & potato casserole for my friends. They devoured it so quickly, I thought I might need to hide some for myself next time!
