Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Melt the Sugar: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the sugar. Stir constantly until it melts and turns a golden amber color (about 3-4 minutes).
- Add Butter: Once melted, carefully add the butter. Stir until completely melted and combined.
- Incorporate Cream: Gradually pour in the heavy cream while stirring. The mixture will bubble vigorously; keep stirring until smooth.
- Season: Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt and vanilla extract, if using. Adjust salt to taste.
- Cool and Store: Allow to cool slightly before using. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
- Stir the sauce continuously to prevent burning.
- The sauce thickens as it cools; reheat gently if needed.
- For a richer flavor, you can use brown sugar instead of white.
