Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) white fish fillets (e.g., cod or tilapia), cut into chunks
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 celery stalk, sliced
- 1 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)
- 4 cups fish or vegetable broth
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup cooked rice (optional, for serving)
- Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep the Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté onion, garlic, bell pepper, and celery until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add Seasonings and Base: Stir in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add the diced tomatoes and broth. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cook the Fish: Add fish chunks to the simmering soup. Cook for 5–7 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flaky.
- Serve: Ladle the soup into bowls, optionally over cooked rice. Garnish with parsley or green onions and enjoy!
Notes
- For added heat, include a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce.
- Swap white fish with shrimp or salmon for variety.
- Make it heartier by adding diced potatoes or corn.
