Delicious Vanilla French Beignets Recipe

  • Author: Linda BEVERLY
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 beignets 1x

Description

These Vanilla French Beignets are a light, airy treat that offers a sweet, melt-in-your-mouth experience. With a hint of vanilla and a dusting of powdered sugar, they’re the perfect dessert or breakfast indulgence for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Heat the Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the Beignets: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into squares or triangles. Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Drain & Dust: Remove the beignets with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Dust with powdered sugar while they’re still warm.

Notes

  • Frying Tip: Keep the oil temperature consistent to avoid overcooking or undercooking the beignets.
  • Dough Rising: If you’re short on time, you can let the dough rise in the oven by turning the oven on to the lowest setting for a few minutes, then turning it off before placing the dough inside.
  • Storage: Store leftover beignets in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before serving.
