  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs with milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until frothy. Combine wet and dry ingredients; stir until just mixed.
  4. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. For frosting, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar until fluffy.
  6. Once cooled, frost one cake layer, stack the second on top, and frost the entire cake.
