- Prepare the syrup: In a saucepan, combine water and 1/2 cup sugar. Heat on medium until the sugar dissolves completely (do not boil). Remove from heat.
- Coat the cranberries: Add the cranberries to the syrup, ensuring they're fully coated. Let them soak for 5-10 minutes.
- Dry the cranberries: Remove cranberries with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack or parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to dry for 1 hour until tacky.
- Sugar coat: Roll the cranberries in the remaining granulated sugar until evenly coated. For extra sparkle, sprinkle a pinch of fine sugar over them.
- Let them dry completely before serving or storing.
