  • Author: Nicole lopez

Description

Southern Chocolate Cobbler is a rich, decadent dessert with a gooey chocolate center and a crisp, cake-like topping. It's a beloved Southern treat that combines the best of brownies and cobbler in one dish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Sauce:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized dish.
  • Prepare the Topping: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined. The batter will be thick.
  • Prepare the Chocolate Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine sugar and cocoa powder. Gradually whisk in the boiling water until smooth. Stir in the melted butter.
  • Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the topping batter into the prepared baking dish. Gently spread it out. Carefully pour the chocolate sauce over the top. Do not stir; the sauce will sink and create a gooey chocolate layer underneath.
  • Bake: Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is set and the edges are slightly crisp. The center will remain gooey.
  • Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • For a more intense chocolate flavor, you can use dark cocoa powder in the sauce.
  • This cobbler is best enjoyed warm and fresh out of the oven.
