Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). - Prepare the Baking Dish:
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons of butter. - Layer the Ingredients:
- Place a layer of thinly sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish.
- Add a layer of sliced onions, followed by some minced garlic, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Pour a portion of the heavy cream over the layer, then sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
- Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of potatoes topped with the remaining cream and cheese.
- Bake:
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes, until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender. - Cool and Serve:
Let the scalloped potatoes cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
