Delight in the warm, comforting flavors of pumpkin scones, perfectly spiced and wonderfully flaky. These scones are a delightful treat for breakfast or an afternoon snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Scones:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
    • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream
    • 1 large egg
  • For the Optional Glaze:
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tbsp milk
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Cut in Butter: Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, and egg until well combined.
  • Mix Together: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Shape the Scones: Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently pat it into a 1-inch thick circle, and cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  • Bake: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool and Glaze: Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack. If desired, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create a glaze and drizzle it over the cooled scones.

Notes

  • For added flavor, mix in chocolate chips or nuts before baking.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
