Ingredients
Scale
- For the Scones:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- For the Optional Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Cut in Butter: Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, and egg until well combined.
- Mix Together: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Shape the Scones: Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently pat it into a 1-inch thick circle, and cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
- Bake: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and Glaze: Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack. If desired, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create a glaze and drizzle it over the cooled scones.
