Description

These Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs are a delicious twist on a classic favorite. Juicy meatballs filled with gooey mozzarella cheese create a mouthwatering dish perfect for pasta, subs, or as a delightful appetizer. Easy to make and sure to impress!

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Meatballs:
    • 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes
  • For Cooking:
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
    • Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined—avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.
  • Form the Meatballs: Take a portion of the meat mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and flatten it in your hand. Place a cube of mozzarella in the center, then wrap the meat around the cheese, sealing it well. Roll into a ball and place on a baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  • Brown the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.
  • Simmer in Marinara Sauce: Once browned, add the marinara sauce to the skillet, covering the meatballs. Reduce the heat to low and let them simmer for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh basil if desired. Serve hot over pasta, in a sub, or as an appetizer with toothpicks.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add red pepper flakes to the meat mixture for a bit of heat.
  • To ensure the cheese doesn’t leak out during cooking, make sure to seal the meatball well around the mozzarella.
  • If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
