  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a rectangular baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs with milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently.
  4. Pour half the batter into the prepared dish; add water on top before spreading remaining batter. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. While the cake bakes, prepare the syrup by cooking strawberries with sugar and lemon juice over medium heat until thickened.
  6. Once cooled slightly, poke holes in the cake and drizzle strawberry syrup generously over the top.
