Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup whole milk (warm, around 110°F)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3–4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
For the Honey Butter:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy and bubbly. - Mix the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with melted butter, vegetable oil, and salt. Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, stirring until a dough forms. Add the egg and continue mixing until smooth. - Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until soft and elastic. If using a stand mixer, knead with the dough hook for about 4-5 minutes. - Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size. - Shape the Rolls:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between them. - Second Rise:
Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). - Bake:
Once the rolls have risen, bake them for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Remove from the oven. - Make Honey Butter:
In a small bowl, melt the butter and stir in the honey and vanilla extract. Brush the rolls with the honey butter while they’re still warm. - Serve:
Serve the rolls warm, brushing with extra honey butter if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- Make Ahead: Prepare the rolls up to the second rise, cover them tightly, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Allow them to come to room temperature before baking.
- Freezing: These rolls freeze well. After baking, let them cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, place them in the oven at 350°F for 10–15 minutes.
