This homemade Key Lime Pie is a tangy and refreshing dessert made with a zesty lime filling, a buttery graham cracker crust, and topped with a layer of whipped cream. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and tart in every bite!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup fresh key lime juice (or regular lime juice)
- 1 tablespoon lime zest
- Whipped cream, for topping
Instructions
- Prepare the Crust: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then let it cool.
- Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and lime zest until thickened. Slowly add in the condensed milk, followed by the lime juice, and whisk until smooth.
- Bake the Pie: Pour the filling into the cooled crust and bake for 15 minutes. Let the pie cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
- Top and Serve: Before serving, spread a generous layer of whipped cream on top of the pie. Garnish with extra lime zest for a burst of color and flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute key limes with regular limes if key limes are not available.
- For extra richness, chill the pie overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.
