Description
This spooky twist on a classic spaghetti dish is perfect for your Halloween feast! With eerie black noodles and creepy "eyeball" meatballs, it's a fun and delicious meal that will excite both kids and adults.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 1 lb black spaghetti (or regular spaghetti with black food coloring)
- 1/4 cup pitted black olives (for the “eyeballs”)
- 1/4 cup small mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
- Olive oil (for cooking)
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Make the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about the size of golf balls.
- Bake Meatballs: Place the meatballs on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.
- Cook the Spaghetti: While the meatballs are baking, cook the black spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat a jar of marinara sauce over medium heat. Once the meatballs are ready, gently stir them into the sauce to coat them evenly.
- Assemble the "Eyeballs": Slice the mozzarella balls in half and place a slice of black olive in the center of each half to create the eyeballs. Set aside.
- Serve: Plate the black spaghetti and top with the saucy meatballs. Decorate each meatball with a mozzarella "eyeball" for a creepy finishing touch. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
Notes
- You can use regular spaghetti if black spaghetti is unavailable—just add a few drops of black food coloring to the boiling water to achieve the spooky look.
- Feel free to add extra veggies or herbs to the sauce for added flavor.
