Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
- If you prefer a more cake-like texture, bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, but for a fudgier result, stick to the lower end of the baking time.
- This cake can be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
