Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Fish:

    • 1 lb white fish fillets (like cod or tilapia)
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon cumin
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • For the Slaw:

    • 2 cups shredded cabbage (green or purple)
    • 1 carrot, grated
    • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
    • 2 tablespoons lime juice
    • Salt, to taste
  • For the Sauce:

    • 1/2 cup sour cream
    • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon lime juice
    • 1 teaspoon chili powder
    • Salt, to taste
  • For Assembly:

    • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
    • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the Slaw: In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, grated carrot, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Toss well and set aside to let the flavors meld.

  • Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, chili powder, and salt. Adjust seasoning to taste and set aside.

  • Prepare the Fish: In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Dredge each fish fillet in the flour mixture, coating evenly.

  • Cook the Fish: In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated fish fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.

  • Assemble the Tacos: Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave. Layer each tortilla with pieces of crispy fish, a generous scoop of slaw, and a drizzle of sauce. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, you can grill the fish instead of frying it.
  • Feel free to customize your tacos with toppings like avocado, salsa, or pickled onions.
