Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 jar (24 oz) pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni or other toppings (e.g., olives, sausage)
- 2 store-bought pie crusts (or homemade)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Cook the Filling: In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper, sautéing until softened (about 5 minutes). Add the ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart as it cooks, until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add Vegetables: Stir in the sliced mushrooms, pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until heated through. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Assemble the Pie: Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a greased 9-inch pie dish. Pour the filling into the crust, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top, followed by the pepperoni and the remaining cheese.
- Top with Crust: Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Serve: Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Feel free to customize the filling with your favorite pizza toppings, such as olives, spinach, or different cheeses.
- For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the filling.
