Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb fresh or canned crab meat (drained and flaked)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning (or your preferred seasoning blend)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional for a cheesy dip)
- Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Crab Meat: If using fresh crab, remove any shells and flake the meat into bite-sized pieces. If using canned crab, drain and flake the meat.
- Mix the Creamy Base: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, and Old Bay seasoning. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Add the Crab: Gently fold in the flaked crab meat, being careful not to break it up too much.
- Add Cheese (Optional): If you’re making a cheesy version, mix in the shredded mozzarella cheese, and stir until evenly distributed.
- Bake the Dip (Optional): Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the crab mixture to a baking dish and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Chill the Dip (Optional for Cold Dip): If serving chilled, cover the dip and refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.
- Garnish and Serve: Once the dip is ready, garnish with freshly chopped parsley or chives. Serve with crackers, fresh veggies, or toasted bread slices.
Notes
- Storage: Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Make-Ahead: This dip can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Simply reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
- Flavor Adjustments: Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your taste. For extra heat, you can add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
- Texture Variations: For a smoother dip, use a hand mixer or food processor to blend the ingredients before adding the crab meat.
