- 1/2 cup milk, warmed (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Cream Filling:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine warmed milk and yeast with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Donuts:
- Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter to cut out donuts and holes.
- Second Rise:
- Place the donuts on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Fry the Donuts:
- Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pan. Fry donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Prepare the Cream Filling:
- Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
- Fill the Donuts:
- Once cooled, fill each donut with cream using a piping bag.
- Serve:
- Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy fresh!
Notes
- For added flavor, consider infusing the cream with citrus zest or coffee.
- Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for 1-2 days in an airtight container.
