  • 4 hot dogs
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prep the Hot Dogs: Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Insert wooden skewers into each hot dog.
  • Make the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry until smooth.
  • Heat the Oil: In a deep pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Coat and Fry: Dip each hot dog into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Carefully lower into the hot oil. Fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Drain and Serve: Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces!
