Description

Indulge in these delicious Caramel Apple Crumb Bars, featuring a buttery crumb crust layered with sweet apples and rich caramel. Perfect for fall gatherings or a cozy treat at home!

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Crust and Crumb Topping:
    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Apple Filling:
    • 4 cups peeled and diced apples (mix of sweet and tart)
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • For the Caramel:
    • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Make the Crust: In a large bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in melted butter and vanilla until crumbly, reserving 1 cup for topping. Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Prepare the Apple Filling: In another bowl, combine diced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and cornstarch. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  • Assemble: Spread the apple mixture over the crust and drizzle with caramel sauce. Sprinkle the reserved crumb topping over everything.
  • Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly. Let it cool in the pan for at least 20-30 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve: Enjoy warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider making your own caramel sauce.
  • Allowing the bars to cool completely before slicing helps achieve clean cuts.
