- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 loaf Italian bread
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the filling: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet. Add onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until soft. Add the beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat.
- Prepare the bread: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and hollow out the inside. Butter the cut sides and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden.
- Assemble: Layer the cooked beef and veggie mixture over the toasted bread. Sprinkle mozzarella and provolone over the top.
- Bake: Return to the oven and bake for 7-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven and slice into portions.
Notes
- You can use flank steak or chicken as an alternative to ribeye for a leaner option.
- Feel free to add sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, and reheat in the oven for best results.
