Description
This Chicken in Basil Cream Sauce is a delightful dish featuring tender chicken breasts coated in a luscious basil-infused cream sauce. It’s perfect served over pasta, rice, or alongside crusty bread for soaking up the sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Chicken:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Add the chicken to the skillet and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side or until cooked through and golden brown. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. - Sauté Garlic:
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant. - Make the Cream Sauce:
Lower the heat to medium. Add the heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in the chopped basil, Parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. - Combine Chicken and Sauce:
Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, coating it in the basil cream sauce. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat the chicken through and meld the flavors. - Serve:
Serve the chicken hot, garnished with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Notes
- Herb Variations: You can substitute or add other herbs like parsley or thyme for extra flavor.
- For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
